SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — CBS' "The Price Is Right" postponed its production for the week after Drew Carey's former fiancée was killed and her ex-boyfriend was arrested.
Amie Harwick, a well-known Hollywood family, and sex therapist was killed Saturday at her Hollywood Hills home, Deadline.com reports.
Carey and Harwick, 38, were engaged for a year before they split in 2018.
"Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime," Carey said in a statement obtained by Deadline.com Monday. "She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation."
"The Price Is Right" was scheduled to tape on Tuesday and Wednesday in Los Angeles. Ticket holders for those days were sent an email explaining they could, instead, attend a taping next week or in March, according to TMZ.
Carey, who took over hosting the show for Bob Barker in 2007, tweeted a GIF of him and Harwick with the caption, "I hope you're lucky enough to have someone in your life that loves as much as she did."
Hollywood patrol officers responded to a radio call of a "woman screaming" early Saturday morning in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood.
Responding officers were met by Harwick's roommate, who claimed Harwick had been assaulted. Officers found Harwick gravely injured on the ground beneath a third-story balcony, according to CBS News. She suffered significant injuries consistent with a fall and was unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
Police say they found evidence of forced entry into the residence and of a struggle.
The roommate had escaped by jumping over a wall and going to a neighboring residence to call for help.
Gareth Pursehouse, Harwick's former boyfriend, was arrested later that same day.
The pair had recently broken up, with Harwick filing a restraining order against Pursehouse.
The court order expired, and the two had seen each other two weeks ago, police say.
