WASHINGTON (CIRCA) - After weeks of back-and-forth trash talk between Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Jimmy Kimmel before their epic showdown in one-on-one basketball, the game finally happened Saturday night. One man was victorious and that man was Cruz.
The former GOP presidential candidate defeated the ABC late-night host 11-9 in the one-on-one basketball classic held at Texas Southern University’s Health and Physical Education Arena in Houston.
Why did the politician take on the entertainer? It's because of what Kimmel said after Game 7 of the NBA Western Conference Finals of the Houston Rockets versus Golden State Warriors.
“The reason this is happening is because after Game 7 of the [NBA] Western Conference Finals, I likened Sen. Cruz to a blobfish,” Kimmel explained, according to Deadline. “And he did not like that so, he challenged me to a game of one-on-one. And I accepted.”
The game was for a good cause, since they were playing for charity. Cruz picked Generation One Texas, an anti-poverty organzation, and Kimmel chose the Texas Children’s Hospital. Both charities received $10,000 each from Kimmel and Cruz.
Highlights from the game will debut on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Monday night.
