Collectable roundup: Spring and Easter games, crafts, figures, and more
SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — It's been far too long since I went through my inbox, sorted through the hundreds of press releases, and complied a list of the coolest new collectables available now (and a peek at a few things that will becoming later in the year).
Recent guides focused on Funko, Shazam!, Disney100, The Flash, and the return of The Mandalorianand the 'Mando Mania' happening weekly at StarWars.com. This guide is more focused on games and crafts from "Make It Real" with a few of the old reliables sprinkled here, there, and in between. There's even some Cricket's Candy Creations if you're crazing sweets. We'll need to get to books and the like in the near future.
With this guide I'm particularly excited to feature a tiny preview of "Disney Lorcana," a trading card game that will be lanching later this year. Ravensburger is a major player in this guide. The game and puzzle company was kind enough to give me a virtual tour of their upcoming releases (some of which I'm not allowed to mention). There's a lot to look forward to. I'm also thankful to have been introduced to The Loyal Subjects brand, their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures look amazing.
Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game Preview
Ravensburger Description: Disney Lorcana is a brand-new, inclusive, and accessible collectible trading card game (TCG) with unique and magical gameplay that features beloved Disney characters in both original and reimagined ways in an all-new world. The game was designed to be easy to learn and welcoming for newcomers to TCGs while still offering strategic depth and challenges for experienced players. Disney collectors will love it as well, since it contains more original Disney artwork than any other single product ever created.
From the press release: In the United States, Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter will first launch at local game stores on August 18th, supported by a robust organized play program, and at mass retail starting on September 1st. Attendees at Gen Con 2023 will also have an early opportunity to purchase select Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter products.
Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter will include more than 200 game cards that will be collectible via three starter decks, a gift set, booster packs and the “Illumineer’s Trove.” To help further immerse players in the world of Disney Lorcana, themed playmats, card sleeves, deck boxes and card portfolios featuring Disney Lorcana art will also be available at launch.
Starter decks will provide a balanced and ready-to-play game deck. Players will be able to choose from three different options that each include a specific list of 60 cards in two of the six “inks” — Amber and Amethyst, Emerald and Ruby, or Steel and Sapphire. Starter decks will also include one booster pack and game tokens. A booster pack will contain 12 randomized game cards, including one foil card and two cards with rarities of rare, super rare, or legendary.
The Illumineer’s Trove will be the ultimate introduction to Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter. It will include eight booster packs, two deck boxes and a player’s guide, all housed in a themed storage box. The gift set will feature Mulan – Imperial Soldier and Hades – King of Olympus. It will include two collectible oversized foil cards, two foil game cards, four boosters and game tokens.
Marvel Villainous: Twisted Ambitions
Product Description:Each player takes on the role of one of three Marvel Villains (Doctor Octopus, Titania, or Kang the Conqueror) and strives to complete a unique, story-based objective. While working toward victory, players will need to face off against iconic Marvel Heroes found in a shared Fate deck, including Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, She-Hulk, and more!
