Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell dead at 56

WASHINGTON (TND) — The lead singer of prominent 90s band Smash Mouth, Steve Harwell, has died at 56, according to TMZ.

Harwell passed away at his home in Boise, Idaho as a result of liver failure, his manager, Robert Hayes, confirmed.

He was recently in hospice receiving end-of-life care at home with friends and family by his side.

Sources told TMZ he succumbed to his health battles with alcohol abuse along with other ailments.

And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable. “His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones.

Harwell was a founding member and longtime lead singer of the band best known for "All Star" and "I'm a Believer."

In 2021, he left the band and retired from performing after a live show in upstate New York where he was seen slurring his words and using profanity.
