The girls of Sunnydale are returning to stand up to the vampires and demons!
Sarah Michelle Geller (Buffy Summers) and Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg) gave updates on the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot that’s currently in the works while on the red carpet for Lifetime’s original movie “Pretty Hurts.”
After Sarah and Alyson revealed to Us Weekly that “Buffy” stars’ kids have auditioned for the new roles in the reboot, we asked if it was their kids that auditioned and Sarah respectfully put those rumors to rest, “no, not my children. [But] the amount of submissions that we’ve seen and the passion for it, is really exciting.” Before confirming, Alyson had to quickly ask her kids, “I was just checking to make sure my kids weren’t doing things behind my back [...] my youngest would kill for the opportunity but she’s young.”
When asked about what Willow would be up to now, Alyson shared who she wanted to figure it out, “I don’t know. I feel like the fans should decide that.”
While there’s no official premiere date for the “Buffy” reboot, SMG did dish on who the new slayer of Sunnydale will be! She and Ryan Kiera Armstrong were on a zoom call, later posted to Instagram, where Sarah said Ryan is the chosen one, “How do you feel about helping me save the world? Do you want to be my chosen one? Will you stand by my side and save the world?” to which a tearful Ryan replies “Yes! I would!”
While a lot of details remain a secret, we do know the reboot will “follow Buffy Summers as she trains a new vampire slayer, to fight the forces of evil.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan are spokeswomen for GSK’s Ask2BSure campaign which has partnered with Lifetime to produce “Pretty Hurts.”
The film aims to spread awareness about meningitis, also known as meningococcal disease, partnering with GSK's Ask2BSure campaign, which encourages parents of teens and young adults ages 16-23 to start a conversation with their teen’s doctor about meningitis and vaccination.
“Pretty Hurts” is streaming on Lifetime.
