Report: Harvey Weinstein will surrender to police Friday, faces sexual abuse allegations

WASHINGTON (Circa) -- Movie director Harvey Weinstein will be charged in New York tomorrow after being accused of sexual abuse, NBC and New York Daily News are reporting.

Manhattan District Attorney's office and the NYPD are the two agencies involved with this probe into allegations against Weinstein. In March, the NYPD said they had considerable evidence against Weinstein in reference to actress Paz de la Huerta who alleges she was raped twice by the movie director in 2010.

The charges being filed on Friday are connected to an encounter with Irish-Zimbabwean singer Lucia Evans. She alleges Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004, according to The New York Daily News.

A statue of limitations does not apply in this scenario because of the nature of the allegations.

Evans broke her silence in a story for The New Yorker in 2017. She was an aspiring actress who was approached by Weinstein at a club in 2004. Weinstein promised her potential future roles before forcing her to have sex with him in his office.

“I said, over and over, ‘I don’t want to do this, stop, don’t,’” Evans said. “I tried to get away, but maybe I didn’t try hard enough. I didn’t want to kick him or fight him.....he’s a big guy. He overpowered me.”

She continued in the story saying,“I just sort of gave up. That’s the most horrible part of it, and that’s why he’s been able to do this for so long to so many women: people give up, and then they feel like it’s their fault.”

Weinstein has been in the headlines of late for various reasons. Ashley Judd sued Weinstein in May alleging Weinstein ruined her acting career as a way to retaliate for refusing his sexual advances. Trayvon Martin's parents are suing Weinstein's company alleging they are owed $150,000 for giving them the rights to their book for a TV show that still hasn't aired yet. Gwyneth Paltrow also revealed today that her ex-boyfriend Brad Pitt threatened to kill Weinstein after he made sexual advances towards her.

The New York Daily News also reports a grand jury was presented with evidence against Weinstein related to financial fraud. It is unknown whether they will pursue any charges within that case.

Weinstein is expected to surrender to police. He has denied the allegations.
