LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- It was a special Mother's Day at Thomas Road Baptist Church Sunday morning.
NFL star Rashad Jennings and his mother took the stage.
The service was emotional for both the mothers in the room and the Jennings family.
Rashad and his mother, Deborah, talked about where he is today, and how none of it would be possible without faith in God.
"I always tell people he was just a little bit chubby," Deborah Jennings said.
There is a strong bond between a mom and her kids.
"She's still mom," Rashad said. "She still gets on me about any and everything."
On Sunday, the former NFL star and his mother celebrated Mother's Day in Lynchburg.
"It feels good coming back to my hometown where everything kind of started for myself and she was the head ring of it all," Rashad said.
Jennings spoke to church members about how God and his mother are the reason for his success today.
"She'll make any sacrifice for anybody," he said. "She'll give the clothes off her back for anybody, she wants to push everybody."
Deborah Jennings also spoke to the church encouraging other moms to always have faith in their kids even when the going gets tough.
Rashad says he's so grateful for everything his mother has done for him.
"She's an angel," he said. "And she's definitely the reason I get to be who I am."
In addition to bragging about how great his mom is, Rashad was also in Lynchburg to promote his new book.
It's called The If in Life.
In the book he talks about his family life and how his mom and God helped him to have the success he has now.
