HOUSTON — According to TMZ, police arrested Tekashi69 in New York for an outstanding arrest warrant.
The rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was arrested Wednesday at JFK Airport after returning from a tour in Europe. He's accused of choking a 16-year-old at the Galleria Mall inJanuary. According to an affidavit, the victim saw him at the mall and pulled out his phone to start recording him. That's when Hernandez turned around and told him to erase the video. The rapper then allegedly attacked the teen, so the teen erased it out of fear.
Hernandez has caused lots of controversy since stepping into the spotlight for not only his music, but with his previous run-ins with the law. He previously pleaded guilty to three felony accounts of sexual misconduct with a child.
Earlier this year, alleged members of Tango Orejon, a local prison gang, threatened to impose “penitentiary rules” if he performed at a local nightclub.
“We don’t f--- with no mother f------ child molesters in our city," one man said in a video that went viral online.
One of the men in the video, 35-year-oldAdam Rodriguez, was arrested at the San Antonio International Airportafter an airport officer recognized him.
When Clayton's Beach Bar booked the rapper for Spring Break, many online were outraged as well.
His team told TMZ the police had no business arresting him and extraditing him to Texas this week on what's ultimately a misdemeanor case.
