New DVD, Blu-ray and digital release highlights September 6-12, 2021

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Between "F9" coming to digital and "Zack Snyder's Justice League" arriving in physical formats, this week's quota for bombastic cinema has certainly been overspent. However, it's the continuing celebration of Star Trek's 55th birthday in the form of a 4K UHD box featuring the first four films that has me the most excited.

Digital

• F9 -Dominic (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) are pulled from their off-the-grid existence when part of a technological weapon is stolen. SomehowTej (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges) and Roman (Tyrese Gibson) end up in outer space. This is the Fast Franchise at its most absurd. For some of you that is the highest praise. DVD & Blu-ray

• Zach Snyder's Justice League - We'll keep this simple. The "Justice League" film that was released in theaters in 2017 wasn't the film that original director Zack Snyder intended to make. After years of fan curiosity, Warner Bros. allowed Snyder to go back and reassemble his version of the film. It's bigger, longer and better. That doesn't mean it couldn't use a tighter edit. • Star Trek: The Original 4-Movie Collection 4K UHD - How to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Star Trek? Revisit the original four films in 4K UHD.I've been waiting quite some time for this. For as uneven as the Star Trek films have been, I'd argue that "The Wrath of Khan," "The Search for Spock," and "The Voyage Home" are all among the franchise's best. The first film, which I have vivid memories of watching with my father, befuddled me. I prefer the not-included Director's Cut that will arrive in 4K somewhere down the line.
  
  
• The Gateway -Shea Whigham, Olivia Munn, and Frank Grillo star in this thriller about a social worker who tries to intervene when a newly paroled drug dealer returns to the downward spiral of his old lifestyle and threatens to drag his wife and child with him. There's more style than substance in director Michele Civetta's film, but it works in a nonsensical B-movie sort of way.
  
  
• Bull: Season 5 - Michael Weatherly stars as Dr. Jason Bull in this courtroom drama based on the life ofDr. Phil McGraw, Bull runs a jury consulting firm that specializes in picking jurors and advises clients how they might sway them. The sixth season is set to debut on October 7. 2021.
  
  
• Seal Team: Season Four -David Boreanaz stars as Master Chief Special Warfare OperatorJason Hayes in this CBS drama that sees a elites group ofNavy SEALs taking on various missions around the world at a moment's notice. The fifth season is scheduled to kick off on October 10, 2021.
