GREEN BAY, Wis. (WLUK) - A 13-year-old Northeast Wisconsin murder case is about to enter the worldwide spotlight -- again.

Netflix announced Tuesday that it will make part 2 of "Making A Murderer" available Oct. 19.

The series examines the case of Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, who were convicted of the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach in rural Manitowoc County. Avery was previously released from prison after serving 18 years for a rape he did not commit.

Part 1 of the series called into question the process used to convict the men; prosecutors have said the series was biased and left out key details of their case.

Since Part 1 was released in 2015, both men's appeals have received attention.

Earlier this month, a judge rejected Avery's latest motion for a new trial. Avery's attorneys had argued he should be retried because the state failed to turn over a compact disc with various reports. Avery could still appeal that decision.

Efforts to free Dassey from prison have also failed. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court decided not to hear his case. Dassey has no active appeals.
