Miley Cyrus jokes the real reason she got engaged was to overcome her strange phobia
When sending Miley Cyrus an engagement present, you may want to consider the packaging.
On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” the “Flowers” singer explained she has an unusual fear of paper.
“Christmas, I’m known as a little bit of a Grinch because I have a qualm with Christmas. I hate paper,” she explained on the show. “The real problem for me with paper is when people have dry hands and they touch paper and then it’s Christmas and it’s cold and everyone’s hands are dry and they’re all touching paper.”
She admitted her fear is so strong it’s basically a “phobia” at this point, one she’s trying to treat.
“It’s getting worse and so there does need to be some sort of intervention and I am gonna look into some sort of EMDR, being hypnotized about it because it is affecting my everyday life,” she said. “Someone gets an Amazon box, I’m sick, because the cardboard is the worst of it all. It’s extra dry and there’s packaging within it.”
But there is a quicker solution in the meantime: her new fiancé, Maxx Morando.
“That’s the best part, that’s really why I got engaged because I just make my fiancé open all the packages outside,” she joked.
Miley and Maxx’s engagement was confirmed by People earlier this week. The couple have been dating for four years, and people noticed Miley was sporting a ring at the recent “Avatar: Fire and Ash” premiere.
As much as she joked, Miley’s fear of paper really runs deep. She won’t even open envelopes sent to her, and can barely handle a book.
“Books, again, I was so happy when they had a Kindle, when the Kindle was invented,” she said. “As long as they’re not dry. When I write my book, wax paper.”
