Macaulay Culkin is not 'completely allergic' to doing a 'Home Alone' sequel
Macaulay Culkin starred in “Home Alone” and its sequel, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” and has a third idea up his sleeve.
Speaking at “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin,” which celebrated the 35th anniversary of “Home Alone” on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, CA, the 45-year-old said he’s not “completely allergic” to the idea of reprising his famous role.
“I kind of had this idea. I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff,” he explained. "I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out."
He continued, "[Kevin’s son] won’t let me in and he’s the one setting traps for me.”
The planned movie would essentially swap the Wet Bandits - Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) - with Kevin himself, as "the house is some sort of metaphor" for the relationship between the grown-up character and his son.
Culkin added the concept is, "[Kevin has to] 'get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it.”
Although Culkin only appeared in the first two films, there have been six movies in the franchise.
“Home Alone 3,” released in 1997, was the first to not feature the primary cast, while director Chris Columbus and composer John Williams also stepped away. There were two more made-for-TV sequels, plus a Disney+ standalone sequel called “Home Sweet Home Alone.”
Culkin has reprised the role of Kevin in some recent advertising, first in ads for Google Assistant, and this year as part of the “Home But Not Alone” campaign for Home Instead, a firm that offers in-home care for older adults, this festive season.
The ad - which honors the original movie's 35th anniversary - sees Kevin protect his mom - Kate McCallister, played by Catherine O'Hara in the films - from potential dangers in their home.
