Lollapalooza set to stream special four-day virtual festival

WASHINGTON (SBG) - As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to run rampant through the U.S, major music festivals are trying to find ways to still provide entertainment and joy to their fans despite not being able to physically do so in person.

The annual Chicago music festival, Lollapalooza, has announced that it will indeed be happening this year, albeit with a slight twist.

According to the Chicago Tribune, this year the festival will be streamed via YouTube and the best part about it is that will be free to all.

This year's now virtual festival will be a mix of classic performances and new sets from a star-studded list of performers. With more than 150 performances scheduled, fans will get to see their favorite sets that have been archived from previous years which will also include international editions and late-night performances.

Among the musical sets being featured are ones from Chance The Rapper, Outkast Ellie Goulding, Run The Jewels, Lorde, Tove Lo, and Paul McCartney, to name a few.

There will also be live sets performers Carnage, H.E.R., Kali Uchis, Kaskade, Louis the Child, Nghtmre, Pink Sweat$, Saymyname, The Neighbourhood, Vic Mensa, and more.

Lollapalooza isn’t the first festival, won't be the last, to find a digital alternative to their events that attracts a massive audience from across the country and world. The 2020 iHeartRadio Music Festival also announced that they will also be making their festival a virtual experience that will run on Sept. 27 and 28 from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. EST on The CW television channel and iHeartRadio stations nationwide.

Since the start of nationwide quarantine due to the Coronavirus pandemic, artists, entertainers, and events organizers have been looking for any and every way to keep a steady stream of content flowing.

Many have migrated to streaming platforms, such as Twitch and YouTube in an effort to do so, which has been successful for some.

For example, rapper Logic has just recently agreed to a seven-figure deal with Twitch. Despite the lack of physical concerts, virtual events and festivals have become a staple over the last few months. These kinds of events are something that we could see more of in the future, even when the world returns to a point where we can physically attend large events like this again.

Lollapalooza Festival will be live-streamed from July 30th to August 2nd, beginning at 6 PM EST. The full schedule for the event will be revealed on Wednesday, July 29th.
