Last call: Titles leaving Netflix in October 2021

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Here we are again, the end of a month and the transitioning into fall. Summer, we hardly knew you. So, I find myself looking at the list of films leaving Netflix in October and I'm struggling to find film's that are essential viewing. I mean, I didn't even know that "Death Race: Beyond Anarchy" existed. "Angel Has Fallen" is probably the best of the Fallen trilogy, but that's not high praise. I liked "Real Steel." It took a little digging, but here are five films you should consider making time for.

Free Fire

Director/co-writer Ben Wheatley's "Free Fire" is a fairly simple tale about a group of gun dealers meeting with members of the IRA at a Boston warehouse. The exchange doesn't go as planned, egos flare and shots are fired. It's not high art. It is highly enjoyable. The cast includes Sharlto Copeley, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Sam Riley and Noah Taylor. (Leaving 10/20/21)

Rango

Directed by Gore Verbinski, "Rango" is a fairly traditional western told in a completely unconventional way. Our protagonist is Rango, a pet chameleon, who finds himself stranded in the dusty town of Dirt. Dirt needs a sheriff, a hero to save them from terror that is Rattlesnake Jake and his gang. Rango can be that hero. Maybe. (Leaving 10/27/21)

Catch Me If You Can

Steven Spielberg directsLeonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, and Christopher Walken in this 2002 drama about Frank Abagnale (DiCaprio), a teenager with an active imagination and a talent for pulling off scams to the tune of millions of dollars. He's a Pan Am pilot, a doctor, a lawyer, a Secret Service agent and none of the above. Hanks stars asFBI agent Carl Hanratty, the man tasked with tracking down Abagnale as he cons his way around the world. Inspired by a true story.(Leaving 10/31/21)

The Impossible

Director J.A. Bayona directs this film about a family on holiday in Thailand when the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami hits the country. Based on a true story, the film stars Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Holland. (Leaving 10/31/21)

Inception

It's been a few years since I revisited Christopher Nolan's "Inception." I intended to watch it following "Tenet," but life gets in the way. "Inception" is a high-concept film that sees Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) stealing secrets from the subconsciousness of powerful business leaders. In a twist, Cobb is hired by a Japanese businessman (Ken Waranabe) to plant an idea into the mind of a rival C.E.O.'s son. The cast also features Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy, Elliot Page, Cillian Murphy, and Michael Cane. (Leaving 10/31/21)
