SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Here's a quick look at what is leaving Netflix in June. There are quite a few films I would recommend catching before they disappear from the platform. Here are six that stood out.
Greta Gerwig's "Lady Bird" is a bit more stuffy than Bo Burnham's "Eighth Grade" as it explores the life and many moods of a 17-year-old Lady Bird McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) as she is forced to endure the annoying realities of life that encroach on her artistic spirit. (Leaving 6/2/22)
David O. Russell's romantic dramedy humanizes mental illness in an insightful and often funny way without being exploitive or condescending. Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro star. (Leaving 6/17/22)
It would be impossible to write the history of horror films without stopping to take a long look at William Friedkin's "The Exorcist." Released in 1973, the film has spawned an entire subgenre devoted to demonic possession and Catholicintervention. (Leaving 6/30/22)
Spike Jones' "Her" predicted a future where a man (Joaquin Phoenix) could fall in love with his operating system's virtual assistant (ultimately voiced by Scarlett Johansson) that adapts to meet his every need. It felt possible in 2013. It feels inevitable now. (Leaving 6/30/22)
When someone says "Hiccup" I don't think of involuntary contractions. I think of dragons. Of all the DreamWorks franchises, "How to Train Your Dragon" was the most deserving of cinematic sequels and numerous streaming series. (Leaving 6/30/22)
As far as I am concerned, director/writer Rian Johnson is one of the most inventive and creative minds working in Hollywood. "Looper" is a fantastic time travel film with excellent performances fromJoseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis. (Leaving 6/30/22)
