SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — I don't know about you, May seems to have arrived and evaporated without warning. It's been decades since I was a schoolboy, the call of summer is still feels like a signal for impending change. While I suspect many of us are planning on cutting back on the time we spend indoors, there will still be lazy mornings and late nights where kicking back to watch a movie or two is entirely acceptable. Here's a look at a few of the titles that will departing
Searching for Bobby Fischer
You might have heard that chess is all the rage again thanks to Netflix's "The Queen's Gambit." "Searching for Bobby Fischer" charts a similar course to "The Queen's Gambit" as it tells the story of Joshua Waitzkin, a real chess prodigy, who came to fame in the 1980s. Waitzkin's life doesn't quite feature the exaggerated drama ofBeth Harmon but Harmon is a fictional character, Waitzkin was real and this film stays mostly true to his story. (Leaving 6/6/21)
The Secret Life of Pets 2
“The Secret Life of Pets 2” feels like three short films (or television shows) that have been sewn together to make a feature-length film. They’re loosely related, eventually coming together in the third for a happy ending.I wasn't a fan of the original film, I'm quite fond of the sequel. (Leaving 6/26/21)
A Bridge Too Far
I went through a phase where I was predominantly watching films with any sort of connection to World War II. One of those films was "A Bridge Too Far." Released in 1977, the film tells the story ofOperation Market Gardenfought in the Netherlands from 17 to 25 September 1944. As the title suggests, it was an overly ambitious operation. History tells the rest of the story. The cast is rather impressive withSean Connery, Ryan O'Neal, and Michael Caine leading the charge. ( Leaving 6/30/21)
The Twilight Zone (Original Series): Seasons 1-5
Rod Serling's classic television series ran for five years on CBS between 1959 and 1964. The franchise has been revived numerous times but it is the original 156 episodes and their mix of sci-fi, horror and fantasy that have made the series a favorite among genre fans for more than 60 years. The bulk of the episodes are only 25 minutes in length. Perfectly suited for a bedtime story. (Leaving 6/30/21)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
There's a cautionary tale in Phil Lord's and Christopher Miller's loose adaptation ofJudi and Ron Barrett's children book about best intentions and apocalyptic results as Flint Lockwood looks to revitalize his hometown with a device that is capable of turning water into any kind of food. Brightly colored, absurd and warm hearted, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" is the sort of family film that actually will entertain the whole family. (Leaving 6/30/21)
