"Hairspray"(1988)

You might be familiar with the Broadway play or the 2007 version, but once upon a time "Hairspray" was a strange turn in the career of writer/director John Waters (in this case meaning it was far more accessible than anything he had done before). The musical tells the story of a teen (Ricki Lake) who looks to fight segregation through dancing on a local television show in Baltimore 1962. (Leaving 8/1/19)

With "Shaun of the Dead" director Edgar Wright, writer/actor Simon Pegg, and Nick Frostlampooned the zombie horror genre. "Hot Fuzz" sees them take on the buddy cop action film subgenre. (Leaving 8/1/19)

"The Master"

You can debate if director/writer Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" is or isn't an open critique of Scientology as it explores the religious journey of WWII Vet Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix) after he meetsLancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a philosophical movement known as "The Cause."(Leaving 8/1/19)
