Lainey Wilson lied to her fiancé on their first date for an adorable reason
Lainey Wilson told a cute white lie to impress her now fiancé Devlin Hodges on their first date.
Devlin goes by the nickname “Duck,” which is surprisingly unrelated to his status as a world-champion duck-caller. It actually came from his college football days, when a coach compared him to a talented quarterback named Duck.
As Lainey explained to Southern Living, “He had a really good season that year. And so the whole team started saying, ‘It’s Duck season; it’s Duck season!’ So that’s how he got Duck.”
Lainey admitted the nickname is why she lied to Devlin on their first date about having her own feathery nickname.
“On our first date, I told him that people call me Goose. I was lying, but he fell for it,” she said. “I think he was like, ‘Oh, I’m in love.’”
The couple have been together for since 2021, announcing it to the public in 2023.
Devlin proposed in February, and Lainey joked that she wasn’t able to win him over with her kitchen skills.
“My fiancé definitely likes me for a lot of other reasons, because if he was dependent on my cooking, he’d be gone by now,” she said. “He can cook. He’s an Alabama boy, so he knows how to whip it up.”
Lainey and Devlin aren’t in any rush with their wedding planning though.
“I need to go dress shopping or I need to talk to somebody about making a dress,” she told People Magazine. “I need to go get fitted. How about that? That’s the first step. I’m excited to just step outside of the box and see what happens. So hopefully when he sees me, he’ll be boohooing.”
