Katy Perry wants 'justice' in legal battle with former owner of her $15 million mansion
Katy Perry appeared in court this week to testify in the ongoing legal battle over the $15 million mansion she bought with Orlando Bloom.
The 40-year-old singer spoke via Zoom on Tuesday about the home, which was purchased in 2020 from entrepreneur Carl Westcott.
However, Westcott was diagnosed in 2015 with Huntington’s Disease, a genetic disorder affecting the brain, and sought to rescind the contract, alleging he “lacked capacity” to sign the deal.
Westcott filed the lawsuit in 2020 against Perry’s business manager Bernie Gudvi, but in May 2024, Perry won a previous trial regarding liability and gained control of the property.
A judge ruled at the time, “Westcott presented no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract,” adding that he seemed to be “coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational.”
Perry is now seeking more than $5 million in damages, including $3 million to cover loss of rental income.
She spoke in court on Tuesday for 55 minutes, and when asked by Westcott’s attorney Andrew J. Thomas what she hoped to gain from the trial, Perry answered, "Justice."
When asked about money, she stated, "I stand to lose money if it doesn't work in my favor."
Perry also said she stands to lose financially in the form of "lost money, lawyers' fees, lost income for rental".
The property sits on around 2.5 acres, with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, as well as an infinity pool, jacuzzi, kitchen area and a three-bedroom guesthouse with a view of the ocean.
