AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) - Forever pop star Justin Timberlake headed to the polls early, and he did not miss his chance to fly home to exercise his right to vote.
JT flew from California - where he currently lives - to Memphis, Tennessee, where he's from, to cast his vote.
Of course, he shared his voting selfie on several social media platforms. He did it to encourage fans to #rockthevote.
Not too long after, the post went viral. Not because the Hollywood star told fans to #exercisetheirrighttovote, but because in Tennessee, voters are not allowed totake photos or videos while in polling places.
Adam Ghassemi, a spokesman for Secretary of State Tre Hargett, told The Associated Press, "They're only allowed to use electronic devices for informational purposes to assist during voting."
JT's picture got 461,000 likes and 2,468 comments in less than 24 hours.
TMZ initially reported the Shelby County District Attorney's Office said the case is "under review," and that violators may face a 30-day jail sentence and $50 fine.
However, the DA later released a statement saying this is false:"The statement released earlier today by my office regarding Justin Timberlake and an investigation was incorrect and released without my knowledge. I am out of town at a conference. No one in our office is currently investigating this matter nor will we be using our limited resources to do so."
Don't make the same mistake, and make sure to check where voting selfies are allowedbefore you head to the polls.
Timberlake and his wife, Jessica Biel, are Hillary Clinton supporters.
