(WSYX) — Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has a new headmaster, according to a new interview from Screenrant.
John Lithgow confirmed in the interview that he will be playing Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Harry Potter Max Original Series.
"It's is going to define me for the last chapter of my life," Lithgow said. "I'll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I've said yes."
Lithgow is the fourth actor to take on the role of one of the most famous wizards in the franchise. Richard Harris played the whimsical headmaster in the first two movies before he passed away. Then, Michael Gambon took on the role with a little bit more of a serious tone as the rest of the books dive into more adult themes. Jude Law played a younger version of Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
Lithgow is the first actor to be officially confirmed for the series.
Lithgow has won multiple Emmy awards and has been nominated for an Oscar twice throughout his career. He also won a Screen Actors Guild award this past weekend for "Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture".
Some of his notable appearances include Conclave, Killers of the Flower Moon, Daddy's Home 2, Interstellar, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He also voiced Lord Farquaad in Shrek.
The filming of the new Harry Potter series is set to begin in the Summer of 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K. The series is expected to follow all 7 books over ten seasons.
