Here's what's coming to Netflix in May 2021

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — With May only a few days away, it's time to take a look at what Netflix will be bringing subscribers over the next four weeks. Here's a peek at their sizzle reel.

And now a look at the four titles that I'm most looking forward to.

The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness

The story of David Richard Berkowitz is filled with murder, a dog possessed by a demon and a possible connection to a satanic cult. Many have dismissed the idea of Berkowitz working as part of a larger group. If true, that would imply that there are still killers on the loose. Journalist Maury Terry believes this to be the case. Will "The Sons of Sam" force us to see the Berkowitz case in a new light?(Avail. 5/5/21)

Monster

"Monster" played at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018. It is a little curious that this film, which is about a 17-year-old honor student who is accused of murder, has sat on a shelf for a couple years. However, the cast includes Jennifer Hudson and John David Washington. That's enough to have me interested. (Avail. 5/7/21)

Oxygen

Alexandre Aja ("High Tension") directs Mélanie Laurent in this sci-fi thriller that sees a woman waking in a cryogenic chamber that is quickly running out of air. Sounds appropriately horrible. (Avail. 5/12/21)

The Woman in the Window

Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie and Julianne Moore star in this thriller from director Joe Wright ("Atonement," "Hanna") about an agoraphobic woman who spends her days drinking, chatting on the internet and spying on her neighbors. (Avail. 5/14/21)

Army of the Dead

Directed by Zach Snyder and starring Dave Bautista, "Army of the Dead" is described as a "zombie heist action film." Sounds good to me. An animated series and a prequel film are already in the works. Netflix is putting a lot of faith in Snyder. Hopefully they were right to do so. (Avail. 5/21/21)

Behind the Scenes: Shadow and Bone (launch April 28) - It’s time for another season of Behind the Scenes, where you get an exclusive look at how the biggest Netflix series are made. This time, we’re diving head first into the fantasy world of Shadow and Bone. Starting April 28th, host Brandon Jenkins (Mogul; Complex) will sit down with the folks behind the “small science” of the show. Searching for the Sons of Sam (launching May 5) - A companion to the Netflix docuseries, The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Madness. Filmmaker Josh Zeman wasn’t expecting to unearth a bombshell when he first met journalist Maury Terry. Obsessed with the infamous Son of Sam case, Maury had dedicated his life to its intricacies and had serious doubts about its conclusion. He believed that David Berkowitz didn't act alone, that there were more Sons of Sam still out there, and that the police knew it. In this podcast, Josh follows Maury's trail, examining the terrifying connections and plausible clues, sending him deeper down the rabbit hole. But where does it end?
