WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — Russia finally has its own team of cinematic superheroes and they look, well, Russian.
Hitting theaters there in February, “Zaschitniki”—“Guardians” in English—is set during the Cold War, featuring a team of four heroes representing different countries in the Soviet Union.
The superheroes, powered by DNA augmentation, work for a secret organization fighting supernatural threats. Or something.
The trailer includes fistfights, gunfights, missiles, fighter jets, motorcycles—basically everything audiences have come to expect from American superhero films. Which makes sense because “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was the biggest box office hit of 2015 in Russia.
After teasers generated buzz online earlier this year, the full trailer offers an extended glimpse of all of the heroes in action. Three appear to be element-based, with powers related to earth, wind, and water.
Then there’s the bear. Or werebear, technically. One character can transform into a large bear. With guns.
“Guardians,” unfortunately, has no release date planned in the U.S.
