George Clooney cancels Venice Film Festival appearances due to illness
George Clooney had to back out of his planned appearances at the Venice Film Festival this week.
The “Ocean’s 11” star was absent from a press junket Wednesday promoting his new film, “Jay Kelly,” and missed a dinner with castmates Adam Sandler and Laura Dern, according to People Magazine.
He was reportedly seen boarding a boat to leave for his hotel in the afternoon.
A representative for Clooney confirmed to People, "Unfortunately, George has a sinus infection and, under doctor’s orders, he has had to scale back his activities today.”
On Thursday, he missed a press conference for the film as well.
“As you may know, George Clooney is not going to be here because he has a bad sinus infection," the press conference's moderator said, per People. "We really hope, and I think he should be on the red carpet tonight. But he is very sorry he cannot be with us.”
Noah Baumbach, the director of “Jay Kelly,” joked with the audience, “Even movie stars get sick.”
Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, arrived in Venice on Tuesday.
The couple married in the city 11 years ago, in a lavish, star-studded affair.
