There is now one major opponent to the proposed “cage match” between Facebook and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter-owner Elon Musk: Musk’s mother.

Shortly after Zuckerberg appeared to agree to the match – the gauntlet for which Musk threw Tuesday, following a Twitter user’s thread about Project 92, Zuckerberg’s alleged alternative to Twitter – Musk’s mother Maye began tweeting negatively about the prospect for such a fight.

“Don’t encourage this match,” she wrote – accompanied by a pair of angry face emojis – in response to Twitter user Lex Fridman’s musing that “a jiu jitsu match between Zuck and Elon would definitely be a fun plot twist in this simulation. I’m all for it.” Zuckerberg recently posted about training in jiu jitsu on his Instagram page.

Dana White, president of Ultimate Fighting Championship, told TMZ Thursday that he had spoken to both potential fighters about organizing the cage match at the Vegas Octagon.

“Probably spent an hour and a half on the phone with both of them last night,” he said. “Both guys are absolutely dead serious about this.”

That same day, Maye Musk posted that she supposedly unilaterally canceled the match.

Actually, I canceled the fight,” she wrote on Twitter. “I haven’t told them yet. But I will continue to say the fight is canceled, just in case”

She followed up on this promised, replying to a tweet by Mario Nawfal – who is said to have kicked off the thread that got Musk to challenging Zuckerberg – saying “And now the fight has been canceled. Great relief!”

Her latest statement on the subject came in a tweet Friday calling for the match between the two tycoons to be “a verbal fight only. Three questions each. The funniest answers win. Who agrees?” which follows up from earlier posts encouraging her son to not partake in physical violence.

White predicted he would charge $100 for the pay-per-view fee for the fight, and it would have the potential to raise hundreds of millions if not $1 billion for charity.

Whether or not the two meet in the Octagon or a cage, the two social media tech entrepreneurs faced off in a sense already online. The popular YouTube series Epic Rap Battles of History – which features historic and fictional characters engaging in battle raps, like Mansa Musa vs. Jeff Bezos or Boba Fett vs Deadpool – featured an installment between the two in 2019.

Musk responded to her "actually, I canceled the fight" tweet with a laughing crying emoji.
