WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) After a brief, mostly silent teaser earlier this summer, a full trailer for Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" was released Wednesday.
The World War II film tells the story of the evacuation of more than 300,000 Allied soldiers from Dunkirk, France in 1940. Specifics of the plot beyond that have been pretty scarce until now.
The trailer features numerous moody shots of soldiers under Nazi fire on the beaches of Dunkirk and on boats trying to escape.
Cillian Murphy plays a soldier rescued from the water by a fishing boat who is understandably concerned that he is being taken back into Dunkirk. The boat’s captain, played by Mark Rylance, makes clear that he does not have other options.
“There’s no hiding from this, son,” he says.
“If we go there, we’ll die,” Murphy responds.
Cue more dramatic music, more explosions, and more gunfights.
“Dunkirk” also stars former One Direction member Harry Styles in a role that is apparently leaving many of the band’s fans perplexed.
The film is scheduled for release on July 21, 2017.
