SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO — The “Despacito” singer announced that he is retiring from reggaeton and putting more “gasolina” into his Christian faith.
The singer made the announcement during a speech at the end of his concert on Sunday in Puerto Rico.
He also shared part of his speech on his Instagram.
"This day for me, is the most important day in my life.. tonight I recognize and am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Christ lives in me and that I will live for him," he said in Spanish on Instagram. "This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of a brand new one."
Daddy Yankee’s real name is Ramon Ayala.
Ayala said he would be refraining from using his stage name.
At the end of his concert drones lit up the sky and said “Christ loves you.”
Ayala has won several Latin Grammy Awards.
