This month's new selection of titles coming to Netflix includes a wonderful selection of original films and episodic stories alongside some undiscovered foreign classics, American thrillers and a children's series based on a beloved book series.

Elena

Released in 2011, "Elena" is a wonderful Russian film that finds an upper-class businessman Vladimir marrying Elena, his lower-class nurse. When Elena's son asks for money to send his son to school so that he can avoid joining the military Vladimir refuses and decides to change his will to leave the bulk of his fortune to his estranged daughter. With Vladimir's health in steady decline, Elena comes to realize the fragile state of the financial stability that her marriage appeared to afford her. (Avail. 9/1/19)

Mystic River

Tragedy reconnects three childhood friends in "Mystic River," a Clint Eastwood film based on a novel by Dennis Lehane. Sean Penn and Tim Robbins won Oscars for their performances. Praise was also lauded on co-stars Kevin Bacon and Marcia Gay Harden. (Avail. 9/1/19)

Archibald's Next Big Thing -- NETFLIX FAMILY

Based on the children's book series, "Archibald's Next Big Thing" seesTony Hale voice Archibald, an optimistic chicken who often finds adventure when he strays from the beaten path, but always manages to find his way back home. Guest stars include Julia Louis-Dreyfus, RuPaul, Joel McHale and Alan Tudyk.(Avail. 9/6/19)

Unbelievable -- NETFLIX ORIGINAL

Kaitlyn Dever stars with Toni Collette, in "Unbelievable," a story inspired by the true story of a young woman who is labeled a liar when she reports that she was sexual assaulted. It's not going to be an easy film to watch, but understanding and change never come from ignorance. If you've seen "Booksmart," you're already aware that Dever is one of the best actresses in Hollywood. (Avail. 9/13/19)

We Have Always Lived in the Castle

Taissa Farmiga, Alexandra Daddario, Crispin Glover, and Sebastian Stan star in "We Have Always Live in the Castle," a thriller with supernatural flourishes about a young woman accused and acquitted of killing her own parents with poison who has withdrawn from the world that believes her to be guilty. Living in her family's home with her sister and ailing uncle, mystery and suspicion grows like a wild garden around her. (Avail. 9/14/19)

Sarah's Key

Adapted from Tatiana de Rosnay's novel, "Sarah's Key" about a journalist (Kristin Scott Thomas) who sets out to uncover the history of an apartment that her husband's family came to posses during theVel' d'Hiv Roundup that saw hundreds of Jewish families removed from their homes and taken to concentration camps. "Sarah's Key" explores some of the more difficult aspects of Nazi Germany's that tend to go untaught in history classes. (Avail. 9/21/19)

The Grandmaster

Kar-Wai Wong's "The Grandmaster" is one of the most beautiful martial arts films ever made. That should come as no surprise for those familiar with Wong's work. The film tells the story ofIp Man, the legendary martial-arts master who trained Bruce Lee. I assume this will be the 108 minute version, rather than the 130 minute version that was released in China. Personally, I'd be thrilled if Netflix had accidently been given the unreleased 240 minute original cut. As daunting as that might sound, it would would only be the equivalent of watching four "Stranger Things" episodes. (Avail. 9/26/19)

Bard of Blood -- NETFLIX ORIGINAL

This one makes the list for its title alone. While I might have preferred this to be a Shakespearean horror film, this Indian series is based on Bilal Siddiqi's novel about a former intelligence officer who is drawn back into service when four agents are captured in the Balochistan region ofPakistan. (Avail. 9/26/19)

In the Shadow of the Moon -- NETFLIX FILM

Jim Mickle directs this psychological thriller about a detective who is obsessed with tracking down a serial killer who murders every nine years. Mickle ("Hap and Leonard," "Cold in July") is one of the most underappreciated directors working in the industry today. He typically writes his own material, but was so impressed with Geoffrey Tock and Gregory Weidman's script that he jumped at the chance to make "In the Shadow of the Moon."Boyd Holbrook stars withMichael C. Hall in a supporting role. (Avail. 9/26/19)
