(KUTV) In an unexpected development at Comic Con International: San Diego, the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” 10th anniversary panel transformed from a tribute to the beloved animated series to an announcement that the series would be revived for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

The announcement might not seem like a big deal, but it officially rights a wrong that Disney committed when Disney purchased Lucasfilm. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" was a digitally animated series that had run for six years on Cartoon Network. Production was underway for a seventh season. numerous episodes finished (later released on Netflix) and then Disney acquired all things Star Wars and pulled the plug with numerous storylines left unfinished.

Some of these stories would later be told in "Star Wars: Dark Disciple" a novel by Christie Golden, but longtime fans of the series couldn't find closure as it left a crucial gap between the events of the theatrical releases "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" and "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith." Fans wanted to see, not just read, the story that was intended to be told.

Now it looks like we'll get that chance when the Disney streaming service goes live in 2019.
