CES, the Consumer Electronics Show that normally attracts thousands of people to Las Vegas to see the latest in technology and gadgets each year, will return for an in-person convention in 2022.

The Consumer Technology Association announced Wednesday that next year's edition, scheduled for Jan. 5-8, will be both in-person and digital.

About 1,000 companies have committed to returning to Las Vegas next year, according to the CTA, including Amazon, Dell, Google, IBM and Samsung.

Companies likeCaterpillar, Indy Autonomous Challenge and Sierra Space will also make their Las Vegas debut.

"We’re thrilled to return to Las Vegas – home to CES for more than 40 years – and look forward to seeing many new and returning faces," Gary Shapiro, the president and CEO of CTA, said in a press release. "Hundreds of executives have told us how much they need CES to meet new and existing customers, find partners, reach media and discover innovation."

The organization says it will review guidelines for COVID-19 safety and follow all applicable laws.

This year's CES show was entirely virtual amid the pandemic and subsequent restrictions on in-person gatherings.

An option will also be available to view the show digitally. CTA says its anchor desk "will travel to Las Vegas and connect the digital audience with exhibitors, conference sessions, keynotes and product announcements from the live event."
