WASHINGTON (SBG) – Celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti has been released from a New York jail due to coronavirus fears, according to CNN.

Dean Steward, one of Avenatti's attorneys, told CNN he was released from the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan Friday morning. Our source says Judge James Selna ruled earlier this month that Avenatti must surrender to authorities and return to the jail after 90 days.

"We're really gratified that the judge took the action that he did. He recognized the seriousness of the situation. Unfortunately, there are a lot of courts across the country that have not. We're fortunate," Steward told CNN.

Avenatti has been quarantined for the past 14 days to ensure he doesn't show signs ofCOVID-19.

The judge's order says an attorney will escort him to the home of a friend in Venice, California, where he must post $1 million bond, wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and is not be allowed to use the internet.

Avenatti is currently awaiting a June sentencing after being convicted of trying to extort millions from sportswear company Nike. He also faces criminal trials in New York for allegedly defraudingporn star Stormy Daniels.
