Bruce Willis’ wife admits she considered divorce before learning of his dementia diagnosis
Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis revealed she was considering divorce over his changing behavior before they learned the heartbreaking truth.
Emma admitted she “felt like my marriage was crumbling” ahead of Willis’ frontotemporal dementia (FTD) diagnosis in a new interview with Vanity Fair.
She told the outlet that she worried Willis had fallen out of love with her, a major change from the "romantic, beautiful story" they shared before.
Before he was diagnosed, she wondered, “'What is going on? This is not the person that I married. Something is just so off.' And I just couldn’t figure it out.”
"It is so hard right now for me to tap into that time of our life," she added.
The couple married in 2009 and share daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. Willis also has three daughters with his ex-wife, Demi Moore, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.
Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia and later FTD, in 2023.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer for ABC last month, Emma revealed that Willis now lives in a second home nearby so he can receive 24-hour care.
“It was one of the hardest decisions that I’ve had to make so far,” she said. “But I knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters.”
She added, “You know, he would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs.”
Emma has also released a book about her caretaking journey with Willis, “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path,” available now.
