Bring on the lights, camera, and drama! Lil Rhody will soon make a name in the world of reality television.

The Real Housewives of Rhode Island is no longer just a rumor. It's here.

Bravo TV and Rhode Island Film and TV Office Executive Director Steven Feinberg confirmed it Wednesday.

"There's going to be drama, but they're real people in a real reality show," said Feinberg.

He said Rhode Island was in competition with three other states to become part of the Real Housewives franchise, and the Ocean State came out on top.

Providence resident Omni said Rhode Island could use something more to liven up the place.

"I think it would be something exciting to bring anything at all new to Providence and to Rhode Island in general," said Omni. "Because I just walk around all the time and like nobody's doing anything."

Pre-production shoots have taken place but this summer you can expect big cameras across the state.

Providence resident Benjamin Garbus said there will be mixed feelings about the show, but it could do some good.

"Reality TV is kind of known for showing aspects of a city that isn't always advertised to everyone," said Garbus. "So I think that having a reality show like Real Housewives could be an interesting way of exposing more to the city that would usually get portrayed."

They wouldn't share the cast or how many housewives we will see.

"They're attractive. They have history, their families intertwining," said Feinberg.

But production will happen across Rhode Island.

Word of a Rhode Island-based version of "Real Housewives" began circulating late last year.

"Whether that be the history of the Newport mansions or our Oceanfront lands, and some of those hotspots that we all know about, I can't wait to see Rhode Island on a global stage," said Feinberg.

Mariana Matteson said she is not for or against the franchise

"I feel like it pits women against each other a little bit. I'm not like a super big fan of how it presents us all the time," said Matteson. "But there are other aspects of it that I think could be cool, and could be in their own way empowering, but I haven't seen enough of it to really engage in a certain opinion."

"You might hate them. You might love them. You might adore them. You might relate to them as people and it's all about... are you going to care and want to watch the program and be entertained?" said Feinberg. "It's all about entertainment, and that's what the Real Housewives of Rhode Island aims to do."

Omni said like the Rhode Island State flag, he has hope.

"We are the state of hope, so we are hopeful new energy will be brought to Rhode Island."

Feinberg said there is a good chance you will see filming this summer.
