Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan in talks to bring back this 80s TV classic!
Dust off your wide-shoulder suit jackets and mullets, “Miami Vice” is coming back!
Michael B. Jordan was first reported to be in talks to to star as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in a movie reboot of the show, directed by “Top Gun: Maverick” and “F1” director Joseph Kosinski, according to Variety.
Now the outlet is reporting that the “Sinners” star could be joined by Austin Butler in the part of James “Sonny” Crockett for the reboot.
Production on the movie is set to begin sometime next year, with a release date already set for Aug 6, 2027.
A logline for the movie describes it as “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.”
The original “Miami Vice” TV series debuted in 1984 and starred Don Johnson as Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Tubbs. There was also a 2006 film adaptation starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, directed by series creator Michael Mann.
