American Eagle’s stock jumps in value after Trump praises Sydney Sweeney jeans ad
Seems like controversy is good for business!
American Eagle’s stock has risen significantly after President Trump shared his support for Sydney Sweeney and their “great jeans” ad.
The stock went up by more than 17% on Monday, according to a report from Bloomberg.
That stock jump happened after President Trump praised Sweeney’s ad and her reportedly being a registered Republican in Florida.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He also praised her to reporters, saying, "You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That's what I wouldn't have known, but I'm glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”
Sweeney’s American Eagle ad, with the tagline "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” has garnered controversy since its debut late last month, with some feeling the ad promotes Nazi propaganda and eugenics.
American Eagle responded to the controversy in an Instagram post last week.
“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans,” the statement read. “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
Sweeney has not publicly commented on the ad or the controversy that followed.
The jeans ad is not Sweeney’s first controversial marketing move. Earlier this year she was in hot water for partnering with Dr. Squatch to sell soap purportedly made with her bathwater.
