CINCINNATI (WKRC) — The holiday season means "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is being played many, many times -- and it adds up.
That means a wealth of royalties every year for singer Mariah Carey, ever since the song was released in 1994.
According to calculations from The Economist, Carey earns about $2.5 million annually from the Christmas hit.
The New York Post, however, estimates the number is actually closer to $3 million.
"The continued love for my song never ceases to amaze me and fill my heart with a multitude of emotions," Carey has said.
"All I Want for Christmas Is You" has topped music charts in 25 countries. The video has about 750 million views on YouTube.
It was the first holiday single ever to earn the Diamond Award for reaching 10 million sales and streams.
A lawsuit was filed against Carey and her former co-producer and writer for the second time recently, alleging copyright infringrement.
