WASHINGTON (Circa) -- Jackson Odell died on Friday after being found unresponsive in a sober living home, according to TMZ.

His family released a statement saying Odell "will always be a shining light and a brilliant, loving and talented soul." They also said they hope this is what the rest of the world remembers him for.

Odell, who had been acting since the age of 12, was also a musician and wrote songs that were featured in the movie soundtrack for "Forever Your Girl." He was a star on ABC's comedy "The Goldbergs" and made guest appearances on shows such as "iCarly," "Modern Family" and "Arrested Development."

"Modern Family" star Ariel Winter posted a tweet saying she was "devastated."

"We didn't talk much as we entered into our high school years, but I'm glad I got to spend time with him before his end," Winter said. "Very hard for me to hear about anyone passing away, but someone so young really saddens me. Sending love to his family and friends."

Jackson was 20 years old.

Here is the family's full statement:

The Odell family has lost our beloved son and brother, Jackson Odell. He will always be a shining light and a brilliant, loving and talented soul. He had so much more to share. Our family will always carry that truth forward. Our wish is that the rest of the world does as well. We are now going to try to make sense of our immeasurable loss privately.
